So is this a concussion or a referee attack?
Nashville and Calgary last night, one of the last games to complete before the new 3-on-3 All-Star Tournament this weekend in the NHL.
This happens in the second period, courtesy of SportsNet Canada:
Dennis Wideman nails the referee heading to the bench.
The replay appears to be quite damning: Wideman is boarded head-first into the boards -- no call. He then, clearly woozy, slams his stick on the ice and begins to go to the bench.
The referee, while there, appears to be intentionally nailed in the back.
I don't think this one is Shanahan's, especially given the severity and at least the possibility it was intentional.
If this is intentional, it needs this season and next, at minimum. It's time for the sports leagues to understand that players are attacking officials across the board.
If this isn't, it's another good evidence as to what can happen if someone gets a nasty knock on the head.
No penalties of any kind were called, no word yet from the NHL as to what they might do.
