Someone didn't get the hint, we think.
There is a report from MSN that an Australian Open mixed-doubles match was taken off the betting sheets because the amount bet at that point in the tournament (it was a first-round match) far exceeded reasoned parameters.
$25,000 had been bet on the match on Pinnacle Sports before betting was halted. It was almost all bet on the team of Andrea Hlavackova of the Czech Republic and Lukasz Kubot of Poland, who defeated Lara Arruabarrena-Vecino and David Marrero of Spain 6-0, 6-3.
The ESPN report on the incident notes Pinnacle Sports noted a small number of people betting larger amounts of money about 13 hours before the first-round match. The relevant authorities have been notified.
According to Bleacher Report, the losing team in the first round of mixed doubles received $4,500 between them. A normal match in the mixed-doubles tournament receives about $2,000 in bets.
