- Indianapolis Colts: Owner Jim Irsay has been banned from material ownership of the team for six weeks and fined $500,000 for bringing the league into disrepute for his DUI arrest.
This next one was NOT.
- The THIRTIETH NFL player to be suspended this season is...
- Denver Broncos: Wes Welker: four games for the illegal use of amphetamines.
This one costs the Broncos some money. How much depends on which suspension between Welker's and Matt Prater's (four games) was considered "second". The Broncos will have to forfeit 15% of the second player's salary.
Both Welker and Prater have $3,000,000 base salaries this year, so, either way:
- Denver Broncos: Fined $105,882.35 for multiple suspensions.
NOW, I have to have real concerns that this was how Welker tried to deal with his concussions, and he's probably done.
EDIT TO ADD: It appears the incident in question took place at the 2014 Kentucky Derby, where Welker was publicly seen handing out $100 bills like they were water after he won big. It appears he took Molly, the powder or crystal form of the chemical in Ecstasy. Apparently, that got laced with amphetamines.
WOW...
Speaking of players who should be done, the NFL has opened the door for a man who has caused death:
- Dallas Cowboys: With significant further conditions regarding counseling, alcohol bans, etc. and so forth, Josh Brent gets a ten-game suspension for his December, 2012 DUI vehicular manslaughter of fellow Cowboy Jerry Brown. So, technically, Brent becomes the 31st player suspended by the National Football League this offseason for misconduct.
