I didn't think we'd get as close to SHTF as we did today, but, the battle lines are most certainly being drawn:
- The National Organization of Women has demanded Roger Goodell's resignation. Welcome to the table and the decision is right, but I do have to wonder what's going to happen next when Roger Goodell (and numerous of his syncophants) laugh at you?
- But a shocking non-scientific SportsNation ESPN poll says otherwise. As of about 11:30 PM PDT tonight (9/10/14), out of over 259,000 votes cast on the question of whether Goodell should be fired or forced to resign, saying he SHOULD is winning by nearly 2-to-1. (64-36)
- So Roger Goodell has come out and publicly said he feels his job is safe. Sans some degree of violent act, I may be forced to agree with him.
- I got word that Robert Mueller, the former director of the FBI, was going to investigate the handling of the Rice situation. The person who told me (my normal anonymous source) was skeptical. I can redouble that if this New York Times article is true -- if so, he's doing it under the request of Goodell.
- It appears as if ESPN and/or the Associated Press wants a piece of Scott Fujita, for tweets like this one:
And people, this isn't a one-person problem at all. It's a systemic issue dating back many many years.
— Scott Fujita (@sfujita55) September 10, 2014
Well, it sounds like the mouth-breathing NFL-defenders at ESPN decided they wanted a shot at debunking Fujita, so, in mentioning his stand, they said:"Former linebacker Scott Fujita, who drew a suspension as part of the bounty scandal,"
Except for one very real problem with that: Fujita was, in fact, the only Saint truly exonerated by the Tagliabue independent investigation, and Fujita sued the league in court for similar to what this ESPN article has now just done!
- Twelve members of the Democratic Party portion of the House Judiciary Committee have signed a letter demanding the Committee look into Goodell's handling of all this. Too bad there are 23 members from the pro-rape Republican Party, so this is going nowhere.
- The NFLPA announced that it really doesn't have any idea as to exactly why Rice was upgraded to a banishment from the league. Another point toward the supposition that this is actually an effort to, at minimum, remove the domestic violence policy, if not all Player Conduct/Player Safety provisions.
- And here's Olbermann's latest -- and if you read his Twitter, he's taking heat!!!
@TennS4Ever @KeithOlbermann @nflcommish she married him after! Not our problem dude.
— Cyprian Francis (@cyprianfrancis) September 11, 2014
After at least his second slam by Olbermann, this shithead fires back with:
@KeithOlbermann bring me around your woman any day, and I'll snatch that in 2 sec.
— Cyprian Francis (@cyprianfrancis) September 11, 2014
Ladies and gentlemen, your NFL fandom, 2014. One main reason I don't think he's going anywhere sans something stupid happening.
- EDIT TO ADD 0015 THURSDAY MORNING: Deadspin: Another KNBR idiot. Ted Robinson, the lead play-by-play guy for the 49ers, has been tossed from the next two broadcasts for several things he said which indicate he (like I) have no idea the extent to which Stockholm Syndrome has made Janay Rice a Prisoner of War of the NFL.
