I Have Been Called To Task

I have to retract some wording in my previous post.

Several readers with experience in similarly-abusive relationships have taken me to task for leaving the option open that Janay may have simply stayed in the relationship for Ray's money.

Even not necessarily intending to do so, leaving that option open allows the fealty-swearers to make their own case defending Ray as The Football God Who Did His Job By Smacking His Bitch Up.

Instead, and not surprisingly (at least in my view of how the NFL is marketed), he has committed an act of war -- subjugating Janay Rice so completely that she now can't leave.

Absolute textbook Stockholm Syndrome.

The people I've spoken to have listed at least four incidents in the timeline of this situation to indicate that Janay Rice has been beaten into a broken pulp -- and that the punch itself is the least of the damage.

Point One:  Her unwillingness to stand her ground with the legal system.

Point Two:  This tweet, which the Ravens only deleted a little while ago, found on Deadspin as a screen-capture:

The Ravens Just Deleted That Terrible Janay Rice Tweet

Point Three:  This photo, taken during the joint press conference.  Look closely at Ray Rice's face, and that of his wife.  Compare the demeanors.

Janay Rice Releases Statement: "This Is Our Life"

Point Four: This statement by Janay yesterday...

"I woke up this morning feeling like I had a horrible nightmare, feeling like I'm mourning the death of my closest friend. But to have to accept the fact that it's reality is a nightmare in itself. No one knows the pain that the media & unwanted [opinions] from the public has caused my family. To make us relive a moment in our lives that we regret every day is a horrible thing. To take something away from the man I love that he has worked his ass of for all his life just to gain ratings is horrific. THIS IS OUR LIFE! What don't you all get. If your intentions were to hurt us, embarrass us, make us feel alone, take all happiness away, you've succeeded on so many levels. Just know we will continue to grow & show the world what real love is! Ravensnation we love you!"

Ray Rice, the sport of football, and God knows how many other parties, have beaten her into ultimate subjugation.

No wonder Floyd Mayweather (jailed for domestic violence himself) believes the NFL overreacted.  He, like most other men, wishes he could smack his bitch up (some more).
