2018 NFL Week One Score Report

Are you ready for some BLOWOUTS?  Total margin of the two Monday nighters:  51!

Here's the sickest part of it:  The average NFL game this week was a 12-point margin -- 30-18, with the average total being 47.8125.

41.067 last year.  The three years before that:  About 45, give or take.

So this year was almost a TOUCHDOWN more per game than last year.

And, not coincidentally, accepted penalties were almost sixteen a game, 255 total -- a full 3 penalties a game more than last year!  (NFL record was three years ago, Week 2:  298 total.)

One Cliffhanger, the tie.  (No Cliffhangers Week 1 last year.)

Four non-competitive games.  (Last year had six.)

Ten ended within one score.  (Only four last year.)

Six games ended with at least one Last Chance Miss.  The tie had THREE!)

Home teams were 8-7-1.  (8-7 last year.)

The Over, thought by many to be a Week 1 lock with the new Helmet Rule:  9-7.  (5-10 last year, 9-7 the year before.)

Why is this, even with the points?  The average over-under last year for Week 1 was 43.

This year:  45.
