Suspension/Cut Blotter: The Raiders may have a much larger Club Remittance check to cut...

  • Free Agent, cut by the Oakland Raiders for the suspension:  Martavis Bryant will be banned at least a year for continuing to fail the substance abuse program -- this would be Strike Three.
EDIT 5 PM PDT 9/11/18:  And now word they're going to sign him anyway!!!  The thing is, it sounds as if the deal will be for NEXT YEAR (and for one year), but I can't think the league is going to look kindly on this, with two players already suspended on the roster.  Stay tuned!

EDIT 5:10 PM:  Nope.  It's for THIS YEAR.

Someone is going to have to have a long look and talk with the Raiders organization, because something is stinking to High Heaven throughout this franchise.

Are we looking (now that the Oakland City Council is actually considering suing the Raiders for anti-trust considerations about the move to Las Vegas.  It was supposed to be filed and announced before last night's game.) at the possibility the Raiders are going to sell Las Vegas a bill of goods here?

If this happens, it is almost clear that a Las Vegas contingency plan will have to be activated in 2019.  (The new stadium, near Mandalay Bay, is now slated for a 2020 opening, at earliest.  And, having been down that way a month ago, it's nowhere close right now!)

In fact, if Oakland wins, the Las Vegas team would lose the Raider name and brand!

Could we now, instead of the league propping up the team to keep Oakland afloat long enough, could watch the entire mess sink (between this and the Khalil Mack fiasco) and Las Vegas gets a team better suited for expansion dispersal???

If Bryant is suspended, he becomes the third Raider to be suspended this season.

The Raiders are already cutting a check for $45,098 for the first two suspensions.  A third Raider suspension means additional fines on the first two of another $30,066.

His original salary for this season was almost $2,000,000, meaning the team would max out at $250,000 for the 25% cut of the three lost salaries.  No word, yet, on the newest contract.

But if he's suspended, it would mean that the Raiders would have to cut a check for 25% of his entire 2018 salary.

Someone might want some words from the NFL to the Raiders brass at this point.  Something is not right.
