The Uncivil Race War: Saturday Night Developments
- So we finally roused Jay-Z to the right side of the equation for one of the first times... Jay-Z was on Saturday night's premiere of Saturday Night Live -- wearing a custom Colin Kaepernick jersey. (Deadspin)
- Two Crosby, Texas football players were immediately expelled from the team before their game for engaging in a protest of the National Anthem. (Splinter -- another Gizmodo site)
- Numerous protestors receiving death threats for their protests are speaking out and reasserting their positions as to why they protest. (Splinter)
- On the other side of the equation and not related to football: The head of the Air Force Academy has stated that all racists on the campus are free to leave -- now. In the face of racist graffiti on a number of whiteboards on the campus, Lt. Gen. Jay Silveria said any student who "can't treat others with dignity and respect" should "get out". (Splinter)
- Thursday night ratings are not good, compared to the first CBS/NFL Network game from last year. The boycott seems to be holding and intensifying, as the first CBS/NFL game was down 6% in viewers and 5% in ratings. (Sports Media Watch)
In contrast:
- Australia is about to vote on the legality of gay marriage, and the presence of Macklemore and their song "One Love" has been a point of some contention in tonight's NRL Grand Final (the Rugby professional-league championship. Reports from Australia on Twitter indicate the crowd roared approval of the song, and the scoreboard at the ANZ Stadium read thusly during the performance:
