Forgot to post this earlier:
Scoring came down for Week One of 2013.
2013's scoring average for Week One was 46.375 a game, a field goal down from last year.
Even though reports that there were more passing yards and passing touchdowns than in any point in the history of the league for a week (it got so bad that, before Monday night, the leading rusher for the NFL was the quarterback for the Oakland Raiders, Terrelle Pryor!!), scoring was down a field goal. (Probably because no one could move the ball inside the 10 or something...)
Also, I have to address the Cliffhanger Index.
I'm giving it an official name this year. The Cliffhanger Index was something Brian Tuohy came up with. The Cliffhanger Index is incremented for any game that is decided in the final two minutes or in overtime.
(So, for example, though Indianapolis won only 23-17, the winning touchdown came with 5 minutes to go. That doesn't count. Same with San Francisco, even though they added a field goal in the last half-minute to get the margin to six. Nor does it count that New York was able to get to within 5 with 11 seconds to go, or Washington to within six with 1:14 to go.)
New England defeated Buffalo on a field goal with 5 seconds left.
The Jets and everything that happened came in the last 15 seconds.
St. Louis defeated Arizona on a field goal with 40 seconds left.
And Houston over San Diego at the gun.
So the Cliffhanger Index for Week One is 4. And there's four more games that "had you on the edge of your seats"...
Really, Roger...
