Fine Blotter: Week One

And away we go!
  • Detroit Lions:  Ndamukong Suh:  $100,000 for a Chad Clifton-esque low block negating a Lions interception for a touchdown against Minnesota.  It is certain that this fine is significantly aggravated from Suh's history, this being his seventh Player Safety discipline issue with the NFL in just over three years with the league.  Suh has appealed the fine as excessive...
  • ... and given the next one I'm about to list, he may be right, even with the history!  Green Bay Packers:  Clay Matthews was fined only $15,000 for that whole fracas with Colin Kaepernick.  No fines of any kind were administered for the scrum, even though video clearly catches Matthews hitting a 49er in the face twice.  That fine was a joke!
  • San Francisco 49ers:  Ahmad Brooks was fined an unusual $12,750 for roughing Aaron Rodgers later in the second quarter of the same game.  One word:  PAYBACK??
  • San Francisco 49ers:  Anquan Boldin, $7,875 for a late hit in the same game.
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers:  Didn't take a week for Dashon Goldson to get another Fed Ex from the league -- this one is $30,000, defenseless player, head and neck.  This is also certainly aggravated.  This is Goldson's seventh Player Safety discipline issue with the NFL in just over three seasons.  Two of them were uniform violations, but still...
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers:  Lavonte David got $7,875 for the penalty that almost certainly cost his team a win over the New York Jets.  (Personally, I think it should've gotten more, on the basis that it brings the game into question -- how someone could be so stupid to do that then.)
  • Tampa Bay Buccaneers fine #3:  Daniel Te'o-Nasheim, $7,875 for a face mask.
  • New York Jets:  Dawan Landry needs to send the league $21,000 for another defenseless player head/neck shot.
  • Washington Redskins:  DeAngelo Hall is $20,000 lighter, his third since Week 12 of last year.  This was for a horse-collar tackle -- the same offense which is what one of the two fines were for in Week 12 of last season.
  • Carolina Panthers:  The punch that got  Frank Alexander ejected from the game also cost him $15,750.
  • New York Giants:  Linval Joseph, $15,000 for trying to take out Tony Romo low.
  • St. Louis Rams:  Cortland Finnegan:  $7,875, late hit.
  • St. Louis Rams:  William Hayes:  $7,875, late hit.
  • Baltimore Ravens:  Gino Gradowski:  $7,875, late hit.
  • Baltimore Ravens:  Jimmy Smith:  $7,875, late hit.
  • Seattle Seahawks:  K. J. Wright:  $7,875 for a flare-up after a punt.  (Roughness)
  • New Orleans Saints:  Kenny Vacarro, $7,875 for a late hit.
  • Buffalo Bills:  Arthur Moats:  $7,875 for a face mask.
  • Miami Dolphins:  Dion Jordan:  $7,875 for a face mask.
  • Indianapolis Colts:  Anthony Castonzo:  $7,875 for a face mask.
According to the AP, that's $312,750 this week.

20 players from 14 teams.
