January 2, 2023 News and Notes: Regular Edition

• Martina Navratilova has been diagnosed with two different forms of cancer.
• Going to be a fight the next time Indianapolis plays the New York Giants:  Kayvon Thibodeaux injured Colts quarterback Nick Foles, then laid down next to him and did the snow angel.  First off, 15 for taunting?  Second, 15 more for Roughing The Passer, Clay Matthews Rule???   
• Foles is done for the season.
• It appears as if the Speaker of the House will be a vacancy for at least a while with the new Republican majority of the House as of tomorrow:  Kevin McCarthy of California does NOT have the necessary votes to prevent a more protracted fight, as only five Republican representatives can prevent him from the majority.  I withheld this from my 2023 Predictions:  Gun to head, I probably would predict McCarthy does not become Speaker at all, once Gaetz or Taylor-Greene or Boebert break out and decide that they want to position themselves in case "something happens" to Biden and Harris...  But McCarthy is quite close to the 218 required -- the Republicans will have 222 in the new Congress.  
• It appears the first NFL team to look into Jim Harbaugh is Denver.  I think he's done at Michigan -- I don't think just the Big Ten is enough for the Michigan hire of Harbaugh, and Saturday was just another piece of evidence they're not winning a national title at Michigan, as the Big Ten got exposed as the wrong kind of football to do so.
