The COVIDLympics: Day -24: If They Can Hold Them...

  • At least the first nine days of running the Olympic torch through Tokyo will be closed to the public to try to stem COVID-19 fears.
  • ... fears stoked from an announcement that Tokyo has had it's ninth week-to-week increase in infections in a row, now only about 3 1/2 weeks from the Opening Ceremony.  It now appears a very real possibility that the Games themselves MUST either be cancelled or postponed, or they will take place under State of Emergency conditions in the host city.
  • And the story of Kim Gaucher isn't helping matters any.  She breast-feeds her infant child, but the Canadian has to now make a choice:  Find a long-term babysitter for the infant, or lose her Olympic spot on the Canadian women's basketball team, due to protocols.   Reversed on Wednesday -- she (and other nursing mothers) will be allowed to bring her child to Tokyo.
