At some point, the Astros and Yankees will meet. That will be the true World Series. That winner will beat either the Braves or Dodgers in six.

I mean, we are at September now. And look how imbalanced things are:
- There are only two remaining questions in the American League: The #1 seed between the two aforementioned American League teams, and the one of the three teams about 20 over .500 who won't make the playoffs.
Two of the three divisions are 10-game margins, the other is 5.5. Even though there is a chance the Indians could catch the Twins, that's still a week in a season that has about four left.
The Yankees are 42 over .500 to start Labor Day, the Astros 40. They're gone and LONG GONE.
Minnesota is 32 over .500, and the 3-seed by FOUR GAMES.
Boston is 11 over .500, and 5 out of the second Wild Card.
Yeesh.
On the other end of the scale: There are already five American League teams completely eliminated from their divisions, and the Angels will be the sixth today, all but certainly!
There are three teams already eliminated from all playoff contention already, and Toronto is about to join them.
- The National League has at least one competitive division race (the Central), and the Wild Card is still a mess...
The only real piece of damage Arizona taking three of four from the Dodgers did was reduce their NL HFA lead to 4 1/2 -- it'd been 8 or so most of the last half of August!
They are now a game and a half behind the Yankees and a game behind the Astros for best record in baseball.
But they are still 18 up in their division. Their Magic Number is 7 to make the playoffs by winning their division.
The Braves are 5.5 up on Washington, but that's about time to giddyap if you're the Nationals. The Nationals are 7 clear on the Wild Card situation (how's that Harper deal working out for you, Philly!).
Much closer is the 3 games between the Cardinals and Cubs in the NL Central.
Second wild card spot:
- Cubs have it at 10 over .500
- Philly's 5 over, 2 1/2 back
- Milwaukee's 4 over, 3 back
- Arizona's 3 over, 3 1/2 back
- Mets are 2 over, 4 back
There is no National League team completely mathematically eliminated from the playoffs on September 2nd. The "Tragic Number" for the Marlins with the Cubs is 2. The next is Colorado, a ways away.
