The NFL doesn't know what the fuck it's really saying here -- or does it?

Two stories from the ongoing NFL Draft:
  • The first is a "What the Hell were you thinking?" moment.
Ryan Shazier should be a paralyzed man now.  If he weren't of such monetary value to this society to eventually break his body again for football, he probably would be.

December 4, 2017, Shazier was almost killed on Monday Night Football during a fateful game between his Pittsburgh team and Cincinnati.

Head down, to the opposing player's ribcage.

Helmet shot.  Compressed his neck, no feeling in the legs...

Until January.

He's out for the 2018 season already, but, Thursday night, walked on the stage in Dallas to announce the first-round pick of the Steelers.

This guy is now the poster boy for what is about to happen to someone in this league.  We've now had two frighteningly close calls with respect to players nearly dying on the field.

And the NFL, trying to purport a "feel-good moment" in all of this -- and, yes, Shazier DOES want to play again!! -- has, instead, reminded everyone of why their sport is about to collapse.

I put the over-under on the number of headshot reviews in the Thursday Night opener at about twelve.
  • And, once again, you don't rock the NFL boat, especially as it relates to the NFL's status as the No F_____s League.
Darren Guice opened up a can of worms during the combine when he revealed he was not only asked if he was gay, but was also (just to get the reaction!) asked if his mother was a whore.

He asked for an NFL investigation, the NFL closed ranks and declared nothing amiss...

And the first-round prospect fell nearly to the end of the second round as a result, #59 to Washington.
